A Brief Overview of RPA

By ECI | Tuesday, December 14th, 2021

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has revolutionized how organizations run their logistical work. The use of RPA used to be limited to larger organizations, where data in-flow was a lot greater than the in-flow of data in typical smaller businesses. Now, however, even smaller companies are constantly inundated with data, because there are so many new ways to acquire it and put it to use.

RPA involves the use of technology to operate systems automatically without human assistance. Its main purpose is to automate tedious business tasks that are often repetitive and usually uninteresting. RPA mimics the activities of humans, doing repetitive actions more quickly and accurately. The design behind RPA must be carefully designed for it to have a positive effect on the organization. When paired up with artificial intelligence and machine learning, RPA can greatly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the system.

Like AI, there are two types of robotic process automation: specialized and general. Specialized RPA is designed to automate a specific job. This type of RPA is highly customized and works only with the processes it was designed for. General RPA can be applied to a larger variety of processes and can be achieved through machine learning. Machine learning allows the RPA to be trained to understand and automate processes with unstructured data, semi-structured data, and structure data.

The Main Benefits of RPA

Cost Saving

Automation will increase efficiency, an increase in the amount of output in a short amount of time, essentially reducing costs long-run.

Quality of work

RPA will mitigate human error. Not only will RPA increase the quantity of work the organization can output; it will also increase the quality of work it can output.

Employee Allocation

RPA mimics the activities of humans, allowing businesses to reallocate human resources from repetitive tasks to tasks that require more human strengths such as emotional intelligence, reasoning, and judgement.
