Happy 10th Anniversary, iPhone! Recapping the Latest Apple Release: iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV
When September rolls around, Apple users await the annual release of the newest Apple products. This year was something special. It has been 10 years since the first ever iPhone came out! The original iPhone ran on OS X, lacked 3G (meaning you could only get online when connected to Wi-Fi), and didn’t include an App store. All in all, it's pretty remarkable to see how far Apple has come since 2007. But before we get to the new iPhones (yes, plural!), let's take a look at some of Apple's other exciting announcements.
Watch Series 3
Apple Watch has just recently surpassed Rolex and is now the #1 watch in the world. And for the first time ever, Apple Watch now has cellular built in. This means you can have the freedom to go anywhere with just your watch – no iPhone necessary! When the iPhone is left behind, your Apple Watch will allow you to make and receive phone calls and send text messages from your same phone number. You will be able to utilize the maps function, plus 'Find My Friends' will update your location based on where you and your watch are. Cellular and Apple Music allows users to stream up to 40 million songs. The new Watch is swimproof, 70% faster, allows for up to 18 hours of battery life and comes in a variety of new bands and colors.
Apple TV 4K is showing incredible detail with four times the number of pixels compared to a high definition TV. The new Apple TV is also utilizing 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR), showing sharp, crisp, and true-to-life colors with great attention to detail. Users can also enjoy a selection of 4K HDR movies on iTunes. Already have movies in your iTunes library? Don’t worry. Apple is going to upgrade these movies to 4K HDR, free of charge! Siri also makes it easier to search for content on the Apple TV.
iPhone 8/8 Plus
The moment many of us have been waiting for, the newest iPhones! The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are delivering new features including a glass front and back, aluminum bands that match the finish of the iPhone (silver, space grey, and the NEW gold), a better camera, an A11 bionic chip, louder speakers, and more. The glass has a 50% deeper strengthening layer and is reinforced by steel. Apple boasts that this glass is the most durable in any smartphone. The camera has 12MP resolution and works with the A11 Bionic chip to enhance faster low-light focusing, improve quality, and lower noise. A new feature of the camera is Portrait Lighting, allowing for users to adjust the lighting real time while identifying faces and adjusting tones. Apple has also implemented a new Augmented Reality feature, which can allow users to overlay the faces and names of players and game stats over a live baseball game as well as engage in other augmented reality scenarios.
Another exciting feature of this iPhone is its new wireless charging capabilities. Utilizing Qi technologies, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus users can now rest their phone on the charging station without having to plug it in.
iPhone X (iPhone 10)
It’s iPhone’s 10th anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than to have an anniversary edition iPhone. iPhone 10 has a whole new perspective. This iPhone is entirely screen, employing new technology that allows the screen to follow the rounded corners of the iPhone. iPhone 10 uses an OLED screen providing outstanding colors and clear pictures. And yes, if you were wondering, this display did eliminate the home button. How does one navigate on the iPhone without a home button? Users can now swipe up to navigate to the home button, swipe up and pause to multi-task, tap to wake, plus this iteration boasts facial recognition to unlock your iPhone. With facial recognition, users can also now use an app in iMessage, Animoji, to control emojis with your face.
Today, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the iPhone release, and it was something extraordinary. Later this week, users can also expect to see iOS 11, the new operating system, officially released. Apple users can begin to pre-order the Apple Watch, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus later this week, and the iPhone 10 in late October.
